Simracing Wheel for Simucube
Simucube Driving Simulator Steering Wheel
Case Study
As part of a collaborative project with Simucube and Aalto University, my team, including fellow design classmates Roosa Harju and Mikaela Kipinoinen, developed a concept for a high-end sim racing steering wheel. This project challenged us to deliver a design that embodies luxury, performance, and Simucube’s distinct brand identity.
My Role
I was responsible for 3D modeling and visualization, leveraging Rhinoceros 3D and SubD modeling techniques to refine the wheel’s innovative fluid and angular design. Additionally, I contributed to concept development and group tasks, ensuring a cohesive and user-centered approach throughout the process.
Key Features
- Ergonomics and Usability: Focused on creating a steering wheel that offers superior comfort and intuitive functionality, catering to extended racing sessions.
- Premium Materials: Incorporated high-quality materials, including machined aluminum and Alcantara, to ensure durability, luxury, and a professional-grade feel.
- Simucube Spirit: Embraced Simucube’s signature angular design language, tuning the concept to align seamlessly with the brand’s aesthetic and functional expectations.
Assembly
- Machined aluminum panels securely hold the controls in place.
- Alcantara is sandwiched between two sides of the frame, offering a tactile and premium grip.
- Chrome panels at the front and back elegantly conceal the screws, ensuring a clean and polished finish.
Outcome
The result is the world’s first classic sim racing wheel, offering a blend of luxury and performance that elevates the sim racing experience. The design combines ergonomic excellence, Simucube’s bold identity, and high-quality craftsmanship to create a product that redefines the standard for professional-grade racing simulators.
